Well Deserved – Last night it was announced Bo Ryan was the 2012-13 Big Ten Coach of the Year & it was definitely earned. Last week I said this year may have been Ryan’s best coaching job so far & I still think that it has been. The season didn’t start smoothly for the Badgers, losing their starting point guard Josh Gasser & many picking the team to finish somewhere between 5th & 8th place in the conference. At one point, even I the eternal sports team optimist, began to debate if this was a year the Badgers would miss the NCAA Tournament. Low & behold though, here we sit again with the Badgers ranked 4th in the conference, 21 wins & previous expectations exceeded. Those accomplishments entirely have to do with one thing, solid coaching & that’s what Bo Ryan did once again by getting the most out of a team that turned out to be more than the sum of its parts because of his efforts. No doubt, it’s been a frustrating season for Badgers fans at times this year, but without Bo Ryan at the helm it would have been a lot more frustrating if not down right disappointing.
