Eeny, meeny, miny, moe – Last time I touched on the upcoming NFL Draft, things looked a bit different on the Packers roster. Since then the Packers have re-signed BJ Raji & Mike Neal as well as signed free agent Julius Peppers. That sort of changes how this draft will be approached as before the defensive line was a pretty big need, now it’s not as pressing. Trying to figure out which way Ted Thompson will go in a draft is an exercise in futility, but we all do it anyway, myself no exception. As it stands right now I would say the two biggest needs for the Packers is at safety & center, followed by inside linebacker. I think it’s safe to say at pick 21 in the draft a center won’t be chosen especially as the Packers seem to be all in on Tretter so that leaves the two defensive positions. I’m almost tempted to say this could be one of those drafts where Thompson may wheel & deal a bit more. Thompson was out of character in signing Peppers so just perhaps he may surprise us again, moving up to grab one of the top two safeties in the first round if it’s looking like they won’t make it to the Packers. Of course it’s just as likely Thompson stays pat or trades down to acquire more picks. All of that & the weeks leading up to the draft though are half the fun of trying to guess like Ted.
