That Would’ve Sucked – Yesterday the news broke that the Cleveland Browns had ‘secretly’ interviewed Badgers head coach Gary Andersen for their vacant head coaching job. Don’t think I could ever be too upset with someone leaving a position for a better one, but I’m very happy that this situation never came to a fruition & Andersen cut off the talks pretty quickly. I’ve been a pretty staunch supporter of Andersen and what he’s done at UW in his short time there. I think Andersen’s a very good coach on the field & a very capable recruiter as well which in the college ranks is almost as important as the job you do in the stadium. Perhaps more importantly, I don’t even want to think what this would have done to the Wisconsin football program. Andersen was the perfect guy to come in on the heels of the not so great departure from Bret Bielema & had he left so quickly I don’t think it would’ve bode well for Wisconsin. Luckily none of that happened & while this may be a sign Andersen at some point will be leaving for an NFL position, and who could blame him, for now we should be relieved that for the time being he’s still leading & committed to the Badgers program.
