Hinges on Health – It was a tumultuous few days last week for Brewers fans as we learned the Brewers & Matt Garza had a deal to bring the pitcher to Milwaukee. Then all of a sudden there wasn’t a deal but it was in the talks. Finally the whole thing was confirmed & conveniently in time for the annual Brewers On Deck promotion held on Sunday. So what does this deal mean for the Brewers this coming season. It definitely strengthens the starting rotation, allowing for a 1-2-3 of Lohse-Garza-Gallardo followed up by Estrada & Peralta I’m guessing. It also was the biggest free agent signing the Brewers have ever had which I know concerns more than a few people out there for the small market team. Whether or not this turns out to be a good deal for the Brewers depends on if Garza can give them a full season as there are injury concerns out there. For now I’m just going to trust the Brewers medical staff did their job & that Garza has a clean bill of health & be happy for the signing as it does make the Brewers a better ball club. If that addition of Garza makes the Brewers better enough to sniff at a Wild Card spot this season is yet to be determined, but their chances are certainly better than they were early last week
