Well Deserved Honor – Barry Alvarez is most often, and rightfully so, credited with bringing Wisconsin Badgers’ football back to prominence. Another name that only helped solidify Alvarez’s legacy was Ron Dayne, who was named to the College Football Hall of Fame yesterday. Sure, it was Alvarez who gave Dayne the chance to play tailback when many scoffed at the idea but it was Dayne who made the most out of that opportunity, helping the Badgers to back-to-back Rose Bowl titles & earning himself a Heisman in the process. I still remember the day Dayne broke the all-time NCAA rushing record, sitting with my Uncle Mike & a friend of ours at The Sports Corner in De Pere. It was a moment in history & record setting one at that, one I never thought to ever see a Wisconsin player earn. While Dayne’s pro career never panned out as many had hoped, his collegiate one at Wisconsin was the stuff of legend & will always be remembered.
