My Guess Is... – The first salary cap casualty occurred late last week when the Packers released Charles Woodson. Some were surprised but I think most saw it coming & we move on from there. The other name which you hear often about when it comes to salary cap concerns is AJ Hawk. Hawks’ cap hit is quite a bit lower than what Woodson’s was & while not flashy or spectacular Hawk did have a pretty solid 2012 campaign with the Packers. With both Desmond Bishop & DJ Smith coming off injuries, my guess is that Ted Thompson will take the cap hit & keep Hawk around if for no other reason than insurance if Bishop or Smith aren’t 100% by the time camp rolls along. Of course, you never know with Thompson & just recently inside linebacker Alec Ogletree has been said to be a target for the Packers at 26. Of course a lot of those Ogletree comments were made before he got nailed for an DUI this past weekend. I’m also not sure Thompson would gamble like that, releasing Hawk for the sole reason he has someone targeted to replace him in the upcoming draft, seems a bit dicey & out of character for Thompson. We’ll all find out together sooner than later but I expect to see Hawk staying as of right now.
