Gosh, A Lot Happening – As we hit the unofficial end of Summer this Labor Day Weekend, there is sure a lot going on in the Wisconsin sports scene to pay attention to.  Later today the Packers will be trimming the roster down to 53. The positions I’m most interested in seeing what happens at are the defensive backs & to an extent running back too. At running back, I don’t expect to see James Starks released or anything but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him end up on the PUP or even IR list, especially with the new IR rules. Also today will be the unveiling of the statue of Pocket Doppler’s Patron Saint, Bob Uecker, at Miller Park. That statute will be joining those of Hank Aaron, Robin Yount and Bud Selig.  Truthfully, I can’t think of a better addition to that group as the name Bob Uecker is synonymous with the Brewers, my only regret is I won’t be able to be down there to witness the unveiling. Then we have Saturday & the start of the 2012 Badgers’ football season, with a game against Northern Iowa at 2:30 in Camp Randall.  The first couple games of the Badgers season are usually filler but that notwithstanding I can’t tell you how excited I get to see Bucky take the field again for the first time in a long time. Then Sunday rolls around, for which many of us will be an extra Saturday & a pleasant afternoon watching or listening to the Brewers followed by the Labor Day holiday on Monday.  All in all, that’s a pretty good weekend.

Quick programming note: The Daybreak Doppler will be taking a break on Monday so you’ll have to get your inane commentary & sports links somewhere else for one day. I know, it’ll be devastating but I trust everyone will be able to make it through. So to all here’s looking forward to the long weekend. I hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy it with family & friends and we’ll see you back here Tuesday morning.
