The Joys of Ted Thompson – Remember the good ole days when you used to at least have an inkling of what the Packers would do in the Draft? In the years since Ted Thompson has taken over I’ve only been right once, back in 2009 when Thompson took Raji. This year, with the incredible deficiencies in Defense the Packers currently have you’d have to think that Thompson will use that 28th pick on that side of the ball. Most of us want to see an OLB or a 5-Technique DE be that pick however with the release of Nick Collins yesterday Safety is also now a priority.
There should/could be some playmakers available there at 28 whether it be Chicken Dinner Road denizen Shea McClellin, Notre Dame’s Harrison Smith or Spartan Jerel Worthy. Problem is, with Thompson you really have no idea. As I mentioned to John Rehor, should Wisconsin Center Peter Knoz be available I can just as likely see him be the pick even if one of the three aforementioned players are available. Oh, and don’t forget everyone’s favorite Ted Thompson draft move…trading down to get more picks. So with the 28th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, what will Ted Thompson do? I guarantee only one thing, only person who knows is Ted. The rest of us will have to wait & find out.
