47 & Counting – With last night’s save, John Axford made it one entire of regular season saves. Oddly enough, his streak started against the Astros & while Randy Wolf was the starting pitcher. On top of that Axford also received the Tip O’Neil Award last night which is an award given to Canadian born ball players for special achievement. Having a dependable closer is a luxury that a lot of teams don’t have so knowing that in the 9th inning you have a pitcher can go to on your team to close out a game is something we all should be happy about. Axford is also a pretty engaging guy on Twitter too, which makes him all the better on my book. The Brewers go for the sweep today in an afternoon game so we may have the chance to see if Axford’s saving streak continues, although let’s hope the game is put away before he’s even needed.
