I Don’t Think So – I was a little surprised at the news yesterday of the release of Chad Clifton, a fixture at left tackle on the Packers offensive line for 13 seasons.  If the news is correct though, it would seem that Clifton was released due to a failed physical.  While it’s sad to see a player of Clifton’s stature go, the NFL is a business first & that business is winning.  There are also two young players, namely Marshall Newhouse & Derek Sherrod waiting in the wings.  Now, some questioned what does this mean for Donald Driver?  Another aging veteran at a position with amble depth.  I’m thinking it means nothing.  If Clifton was released in part due to the failed physical, that will be a non-issue for the uber-fit Driver.  While Wide Receivers like Gurley & Borel will be chomping at the bit to see the field in 2012 I think Driver still holds the edge for now based on his experience in the system, ability & leadership skills.  There will be a time we won’t see Driver in a Packers uniform, I just don’t think it’ll be this year yet.
