The Milwaukee Brewers accomplished one hell of a goal tonight, securing home field advantage for the first round of the National League playoffs. They won the final game of the regular season 7-4 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Tonight might have been the wildest night in the history of baseball. Atlanta and Boston both completed epic collapses to miss the playoffs, so in the NL, the St. Louis Cardinals win the Wild Card and the Brewers will host the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Zack Greinke pitched 6 innings, capping an 11-0 season at Miller Park but potentially throwing off his chances to start Game 2 in 4 days. Jonathan Lucroy, Corey Hart and Carlos Gomez all homered to put the game out of harm’s way. Ryan Braun missed his shot at the NL batting title by going 0-4, but he’ll take the playoffs any day. Prince Fielder was subbed out of the game in the 9th and came back out for a curtain call. It’s very possibly his final regular season game as a Brewer. For now though, the postseason awaits.
The next time you see the Milwaukee Brewers will be in the playoffs. Yovani Gallardo will start Game 1 at home on Saturday.
