The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0 in a game void of most excitement.

Milwaukee managed just 5 hits, 4 of them coming against a pitcher making his major league debut. The Brewers have been notoriously bad against brand new pitchers. Having no body of work to prepare for can be tough. Either way, too many chances were left behind. There must be a limit to the number of times a team can put a guy on third with 1 out and get nothing from it.

For the four game series, Milwaukee put up run totals of 8, 2, 11 and 0. This up and down style shouldn’t require a return to the drawing board for one of the better offenses in baseball, but a quick visit to the room containing the drawing board might not hurt. Slumps like this will come and go, all part of the grueling 162 game season.

Losing 2 out of the last 3 to Pittsburgh might seem like the end of the world, but knowing that a less-than-steller Shaun Marcum can still claw his way through 2 earned runs over 6 innings is good news. Let’s argue that the Crew has been getting too complacent during this winning stretch, and a little humility is a good thing.

The Brewers return home for 2 series’ against the Cubs and Cardinals. A little home cooking is just what the doctor ordered. The next 6 games will carry the team into September, and that is when the real fun begins. Following tomorrow’s day off, Randy Wolf kicks off against Chicago.row afternoon as the Crew looks to start up a brand new winning streak against Pittsburgh.
