The Milwaukee Brewers continued their winning ways, defeating the Houston Astros 6-2 for their 5th win in a row.
The Brewers, hitting a softer part of their schedule, are taking advantage of the opportunity to keep ahead in the NL Central. The St. Louis Cardinals also won, remaining 1.5 games back with a 3-game series coming up.
Yovani Gallardo had a fantastic game, continuing a trend of clean, smooth starting pitching. Gallardo ran 7 innings, giving up 4 hits, no walks and 1 unearned run. The bullpen has been just as instrumental in maintaining these games, and their usual staff got another night off. Marco Estrada and Kameron Loe finished the rest, with Estrada allowing the extra run.
The Crew got solo home runs from both Corey Hart and Prince Fielder. Fielder’s blast was a bomb that went an estimated 475 feet. Casey McGehee and Jonathan Lucroy contributed on a 3-run 5th that broke the game open. Houston just hasn’t been consistent in any part of their game, and the Brewers have looked quick and energetic lately, taking advantage of any miscues sent their way.
The series wraps up tomorrow with Chris Narveson. The starting rotation has now each won 1 in a row, so it will be fun to watch who blows it.
