So much for starting a big run. The Milwaukee Brewers lost the game and the 3-game series to the Tampa Bay Rays 6-3 in Milwaukee. The Brewers now sit at 2-4 in their interleague quest.
Starter Shaun Marcum left his last game after 1 inning with a hip injury, but felt he was good to go this time around. He only lasted 3 innings as his hip became more troublesome, and the Crew had to turn to their bullpen to finish the work. Marco Estrada, who would have started had Marcum not been ready, cleaned up 3 innings but took the loss on the one run he surrendered. The Rays got 3 more on a home run off of Tim Dillard and Sergio Mitre mopped up the 9th. The team will be thankful to have 2 off days in the next 5, helping to rest an overworked bullpen.
The game felt good from the start for Brewer fans. Milwaukee sent 5 guys to bat in the first and scored 2 of them. Those was the only runs they could muster until late in the 9th inning. Of course the main story came from the bullpen, who has put in tons of extra work in the past few weeks. For every great start the Brewers get, they seem to have two or three rough ones that force the relievers into extra duty.
The Brewers have the day off tomorrow, their first in 20 days, to rest up before the former division rival Minnesota Twins come to town. Randy Wolf gets the start against a team that, 1 month ago, was dead last in all of baseball, but has gone 17-9 since then, including 9-1 in their last 10.
