Milwaukee Brewers: 250 Words or Less: 5/29/11

There is no better way to get ready for a road trip. The Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Francisco Giants 6-0 to cap off an 8-1 homestand. They are now 29-24 for the year and can take a series win against the World Series champs with them as confidence.
Yovani Gallardo was brilliant in his performance, dominating 8 innings of a shutout and allowing 4 hits. LaTroy Hawkins let 2 on base before inducing a double play to get out of a mini-jam in the 9th.
At no point was Gallardo in any trouble. His pitch count crept up on him in the 8th, preventing the complete game. But no worries there. This team is boiling over with confidence, and they’ll need to maintain that on the road.
Everyone on the team contributed offensively except Jonathan Lucroy, but he’s still the hero from yesterday. The team collected 13 hits today and finished a solid series against a great pitching staff. The defense hasn’t always been perfect, but the Brewers looked quick and focused in the field this afternoon, and they’ll need to be on their game away from Miller Park.
The road trip starts in Cincinnati as the Reds host 3 games against the Brewers. Milwaukee is 1-5 against their division rivals in Ohio, including a season-opening 3 game sweep.
