Carlos Gomez started things off with a bang today by hitting an inside-the-park homerun in the first inning. That was all of the offense Randy Wolf would need for most of the day. Wolf allowed two runs and scattered three hits and one walk over 7-1/3 strong innings (67 strikes, 30 balls). Actually, Wolf left the game with a 2-0 lead, two runners on base, and one out.
After the departure of Wolf, Kameron Loe induced the double play ground ball he needed. Unfortunately, it was hit at Casey McGehee, who promptly booted it. Of course, the Giants ended up scored two runs and Wolf was handed a hard luck no decision.
The offense, other than Gomez, was almost non- existent. In the 4th, Ryan Braun walked, stole second, advance to third on the throwing error, and scored on a sacrifice fly. I am sure Ron Roenicke had to cover his lap with a towel after the team manufactured that particular run.
Axford muddled through the ninth and the stage was set for WALK OFF SATURDAY.
The PocketDoppler Player of the Game Ryan Braun (on base four times and scored two runs) led off the 9th with a single and eventually ended up at third, with the bases loaded and one out. Jonathan Lucroy played the part of hero by executing a perfect suicide squeeze bunt that scored Ryan Braun and sent the Miller Park faithful into an ear splitting tizzy.
The series resumes tomorrow at 1:10PM. Matt Cain (2-1, 3.62 ERA) squares off against Yovani Gallardo (6-2, 4.35 ERA).
