Milwaukee Brewers: 250 Words or Less: 5/8/11
Happy Mother’s Day to all. Hope your celebrations with your mother or your memories of her are as warm as the weather in Milwaukee this Sunday afternoon.
The Milwaukee Brewers had only 1 run today, and it was driven in by Craig Counsell. Believe me? That was the only portion of a rally they could muster in the 9th as they fell to the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1.
Chris Narveson lasted 6 innings, giving up the 3 runs, only two earned, while allowing 7 hits to the Cardinals. He didn’t look spectacular, but wasn’t bad by any means. St. Louis was able to pick away at him enough to take their lead for good in the 5th inning.
The slow offense theme continued for Milwaukee. Their big moment came in the 9th inning as they loaded the bases with 1 out. Counsell’s pinch hit RBI single, a play that the shortstop could have but fell over before the throw, was the only thing preventing another shutout. Rickie Weeks had a chance to play hero in the next at-bat but blindly swung at 3 straight pitches to end the game and the road trip. They finish 2-8 on their 10 game trip between Houston, Atlanta and St. Louis.
Milwaukee returns home for two series, San Diego and Pittsburgh. Zack Greinke will make his Miller Park debut Monday.
