The misery against Cincinnati finally ended as the Milwaukee Brewers survived with a 3-2 win that snapped a 4 game losing streak against the Reds this season.
The Brewers got a rebound on their starting pitching as Marco Estrada threw 7 innings of a masterpiece. He had some extra velocity behind his fastball and worked well through the Reds offense for 2 hits, 3 walks and 2 earned runs. Corey Hart made his season debut in Estrada’s spot in the 8th inning.
All 5 runs were scored off home runs. Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun and Rickie Weeks each hit solo shots for Milwaukee. John Axford picked up the save. His command looked better than it had so far this year and he was hitting some pitches in the upper 90s. He finished the 9th against the heart of Cincinnati’s order.
Yovani Gallardo gets the start tomorrow as the Brewers try to take an important home series against the division rival.
