Milwaukee Brewers: 250 Words or Less: 4/24/11

For everyone that celebrated Easter today, hope it was enjoyable. For those in Milwaukee, the weather was fantastic, a wonderful spring day, and a great day for baseball.
After the early excitement surrounding the Brewers’ revamped starting pitching rotation, it’s possible Randy Wolf felt left out. Yet since he began the season with two rough starts, Wolf is making a case as one of the better arms in the rotation. Wolf followed up two quality games with an excellent performance today to win the series against the visiting Houston Astros, 4-1.
Wolf allowed only 4 runs, walked none and struck out 4 as he went 8 nearly-flawless innings. The only mistake came in the 8th as he gave up a 2-out home run to snap a personal scoreless inning streak of almost 20. He finished the inning and his afternoon on the next batter and left the field to a well-earned ovation.
The same story continues for the Brewers’ offense as they got a lot going early but couldn’t sustain it. Brandon Boggs was brought up to fill in for the injured Nyjer Morgan, and both Boggs and Rickie Weeks hit solo home runs. For the second day in a row, the Brewers got runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs, but converted nothing from it. Thankfully it wasn’t nearly as sloppy as the “incident” yesterday. Let us never speak of that again.
The matchup tomorrow is Chris Narveson vs. the Cincinnati Reds’ Bronson Arroyo. Narveson has a 2.19 ERA to go with a 1-0 record through 4 starts. The Brewers will hope to return the sweep they received from the Reds in the first series of the season.
If you’re going to the Brewers game on May 14th or perhaps want to go to the game, Pocket Doppler is participating in an event where you can meet Brewers GM Gord Ash as well as Trenni Kusnierek from WTMJ (formerly FSN & MLB Network) and Will Carroll from SI.com. The price has dropped and you can get access to the event & a game ticket for only $40 (includes food, door prizes, etc) or for just $25 to attend the event if you’re already going to the game. Myself, Wally & John will all be at the event and it sounds like it’ll be a pretty fun time. More info here if interested: http://bigleaguetoursmilwaukeeparty-pocketdoppler.eventbrite.com/
