Milwaukee Brewers: 250 Words or Less: 4/23/11
The Milwaukee Brewers looked out of sorts tonight as they lost one of the sloppier games in memory to the Houston Astros, 9-6 in 10 innings.
Both teams came out firing in the early part of the game. Houston jumped ahead first on some quick offense, capped with a home run by former Brewer Carlos Lee. The Brewers got the deficit to 4-3 in the 3rd inning, but both offenses slowed down at that point. Once the two starters left after 6 innings, both teams tacked on two runs apiece, Milwaukee getting theirs from a 2-run home run from Ryan Braun.
The Brewers had a great opportunity to tie or take the lead in the 8th inning when they got a man on 1st and 3rd base with no outs. But if you missed the game, you missed the blunder of a lifetime; the Brewers nearly had 3 baserunners picked off in one play. Yuniesky Bentacourt got tagged in a rundown between 3rd base and home plate. Jonathan Lucroy tried to take 3rd after that tag but got caught in his own rundown and tagged out. Erick Almonte barely made it back to 1st as the defender bobbled what would have been a triple play.
The Brewers were able to force extra innings in the 9th, but gave up the three runs in the 10th. In truth, this game could have ended a tie and no one would have complained. Hopefully the Brewers will come out with a little more focus tomorrow. Randy Wolf gets the start against Wandy Rodriguez.

I believe this occurred right before the bearded lady crashed the clown car in the center ring.
It was disappointing loss and one that will sting for quite some time.
Unfortunately, I got to see this fiasco in person. Astros did everything they possibly could to give the game to Milwaukee and the Brewers coughed it up right back at them.
Absolutely agree with the comments I saw on Twitter about Betancourt in the 8th; happened right in front of us. He was already 2/3 of the way home and should have kept running to the plate. He could possibly have scored or at the very least caused a collision that would have allowed other two runners to advance safely. The only thing he could have accomplished by getting in rundown is exactly what happened-a double/near triple play. As I said while the episode was unfolding; un-FREAKIN’-believable!
Also wondered why Roenicke didn’t pitch around Quintero with the pitchers’ spot coming up in the 10th. He should have tried to force Houston’s hand with the closer Lyons if only to make them go deeper into their bullpen.
