I’m not big on New Year’s Resolutions, but I am big on trying new things each year. Here are a few ideas for Wisconsin sports fans in 2011:

– Get tickets to a minor league baseball game. Check out the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, Beloit Brewers, Madison Mallards, or the LaCrosse Loggers. The tickets are cheap…spend some money at the game.
– Play a round of golf at a really nice Wisconsin golf course. Two personal favorites…Hawk’s View in Lake Geneva and University Ridge in Verona. Oh, and don’t worry about your score.
– Wisconsin Badger Hockey Tickets. Easier to get than Badger basketball tickets with a very different (and fun) clientele.
– Lake Michigan Charter Fishing Excursion: A tad pricey, but the coho, kings, browns, lake trout and steelhead are big and fun to catch. Most charters will supply all the equipment.
– Plan on a weekend at the WIAA Boys State Basketball Tournament: Go on Thursday and Friday in late March to see the excitement shared by teams and communities from every corner of Wisconsin.
– American Birkebeiner: The famous Cable to Hayward cross country ski event has turned into a wide variety of activities for outdoor enthusiasts. Check out the activities at http://www.birkie.com/.
– The Crazylegs Run – Scheduled for Saturday, April 30, in Madison, the 8K run and 2-mile walk are great fun with a few thousand other Badger fans on the UW campus.
– Scion Dental Summer Basketball League – Held for the first time this past year at Mequon Homestead High School, the league provides an opportunity for high level players(college and pro) in the Milwaukee area a place to compete in the summer time. The cost is free…great summer hoops entertainment.
– Splurge on expensive Milwaukee Brewers tickets. It is a totally different experience when you can here the umpire and the sound of the pitch hitting the catcher mitt.
– September 17, 2011, the Wisconsin Badger football team will play at Soldier Field in Chicago against Northern Illinois and new coach Dan Doeren (Wisconsin’s former defensive coordinator). Spend the night in the Windy City.
