Thursday Q & A: Alex from The Packers Lounge

Our guest this week for the Thursday Q & A is Alex from the Packers Lounge. While the Lounge may have a new home these days at CHTV, it is still for all practical purposes a separate entity from the whole. Sort of like an out building or utility shack, just with nicer décor. So with that, off to the questions.
The Packers Lounge, give us a backstory on the blog & why you decided to launch it
The Packers Lounge happened by complete accident. I used to keep a personal blog back in the day. On the day Favre announced his retirement I wrote a heart felt story that got a lot of feedback. The rest is history, be that good or bad.
You recently teamed up/moved operations over to CheeseheadTV, was that a hard decision to make?
The move to Cheesehead TV was not a difficult one to pull the trigger on at all. I think Cheesehead TV is going to do some great things down the road, and I wanted to be a part of that. Yes, it’s hard to let Nagler boss me around, but it was the logical thing to do.
A new venture you’ve just got involved in along with some others is Cheesehead Radio. How did that come about?
One day I was sitting around and C.D. Angeli asked if I would like to be a part of his beta project Cheesehead Radio. I figured why not? I know C.D. has wanted to have a call-in show for some time, and I was more than happy to help make that happen.
You’re someone that is not shy about calling other’s out, re: your Served & Dumb Ass columns. How does someone get so lucky to be the subject of such infamy?
So you want to get served, huh? [Ed.Note: I think I already have been although in the peripheral.] Well unfortunately getting a mention in a ‘Dumbass’ or ‘Served’ post is completely arbitrary. The last guy who got one kept pledging to donate 100 bucks to the site. He still hasn’t. Outside of that, it could be the weather, not enough coffee, or simply straight up boredom.
What’s more fun, writing the Served/Dumb Ass columns or the more Packer related ones?
I think both types of articles can be fun. It really depends on the content. Obviously writing something off the beaten path is what I prefer, but if I can throw the Packers in I try to. During the off-season, it’s really the only fallback I have. We all can’t be Brian Carriveau.
Speaking of Dumb Asses, and it’s pretty clear by this question where I stand on this, what do you make of the recent comments made by Brett Favre in the Men’s Journal article hitting the stands.
Honestly, I rarely pay attention to Favre any more. In my mind the only thing he is good for is website traffic for other dumb-asses who still do
Are you buying into the pre-season hype the Packers are currently getting?
I totally buy into the hype. This SHOULD be the Packers year. If the Packers stay healthy, and don’t make it deep into the post-season, I predict you will see some changes come 2011.
Who is one player this year on the Packers squad who will be an unexpected, breakout star this year?
Jason Spitz
You’ve mentioned a few times either via Twitter or Facebook that you are working on a book. Can you share anything about that without giving too much away?
I am working on a book of sorts, but I wanted to deliver it in a different fashion than your traditional publication. You can find the first two of 52 chapters on Cheesehead TV right now. They are free to read at the moment. I’m excited to watch the series grow, of course not all stories are going to have the shock value of others, but I guarantee a pretty good read with plenty of surprises.
What advice would you give to sports bloggers (or bloggers in general) as it relates to starting or maintaining their blogs?
Make sure and plan an abundance of time making no money. Also, if you are not coming with something top-shelf, don’t come at all.
…and now for the lighting round.
Your all-time favorite Packers player is:
Mark Tauscher
Your favorite Packers blog to read that is not named The Packers Lounge is:
http://nutcan.com/ (Not really a blog, but a quiet place, with intelligent conversation about about a variety of things. Also, there is an intense Packer vs. Viking debate ongoing.)
If there were no Packers, you would have a blog about:
If there were no Packers, I would blog about how great it is to not be a blogger anymore.
If you were a pro football player, your position would be:
Third-string Quarterback
Should I ever run into you at a bar, I should buy you a _____________ for taking the time to answer these questions.
Cranberry juice, extra ice.
Big thanks to Alex for coming on board this week and make sure to pull up a recliner at the Packers Lounge as often as you can. Also, if you’re available to you can meet Alex in person at the July 30thCHTV Meet & Greet at Titletown Brewing in Green Bay.
