Moving on up – As Aaron over at CHTV posted, there is a rumor circulating that the Packers want to move up in this year’s draft. I’ve heard this rumor now from 3 different sources, so does it actually have some bite to it? It would be easy to just call this a smokescreen and write it off because does anyone really expect Ted Thompson to give up his cherished later round picks two years in a row? My answer is…maybe. When Thompson came in here he said would pretty much eschew free agency & build from the draft. For the most part he has succeeded in doing so, creating depth where there was none and positioning this team for a championship run. As irritating as it was for us fans, Thompson did the things that needed to be done. So maybe Thompson is finally comfortable enough with what he has in the stable to take another chance this year and move up to grab a game changing playmaker that wouldn’t be there at #23. It would certainly be a fun thing to see, but of course Thompson is just as likely to trade out of the first round altogether. It’s anyone’s guess at this point, which is what makes the NFL Draft so much fun, even with this dumb ass schedule.
