I think it’s brilliant! What an idea! And I was there! He took the idea! He saw it ripe on the tree, he plucked it, and he put it in his pocket. It’s, it’s, dare I say… genius? Ah, no, no! But maybe, ooh! ah! maybe it is! Maybe I’m in the presence of greatness, maybe I just don’t know it. But I saw it…

That idea of course was Dan Walsh’s The Daily Drink and what became an everyday ritual for many, Dan’s Morning Coffee column.  Unfortunately, The Daily Drink was folded in February leaving a void for many of us.  At the time I had emailed Dan about perhaps taking up the reins, at least for the Morning Coffee-type column.  Well, it only took a month or so but the torch has been relit and The Morning Mug starts today.  What can you expect?  I hope the same exacting and high standards of decorum, integrity and snark that Dan provided to you all.  I imagine it’ll take a while to get a good feel and flow for this so please bare with us during the growing pains.  So without further ado…

In honor of Dan, how can it not be anything but an Alison Brie sort of morning.

Did anyone watch the Marriage Ref?  This pretty much sums up what I thought it would be, without even watching it.

Thanks Vancouver – I’m a big fan of the Olympics in general and enjoy the every other year two week period when they are on.  Overall impressive performance for the US athletes, winning the medal count over Germany by 7 medals, although kudos to Canada for owning the Gold Medal count with 14.  Speaking of Canada, I tweeted last night after the Gold Medal match that the win probably meant more to the Canada then it did to the US.  I was quickly taken to task saying how could I think that, but the person responding to me was speaking of the players, I had been thinking more macro when I made the statement thinking country, not individual.  I still stand by that statement though, winning the Gold Medal in Hockey was more important to Canada as a nation then losing the game was/is to the United States.  No matter what you may think of that statement, it was a great game and an good end to what many thought was an Olympics filled with failure . We’ll end on that note and also say farewell to some of our own US Olympians:

It’s gonna he hard to top after starting with Alison Brie. You should have started with Betty White or something.

Well done Wally. Looking forward to seeing how this evolves.

A fine start but you should have linked to this page to really get things going on the right track.

Very nice start and addition by KL!

First off, thanks to Dan Walsh for emailing me about this blog.

I’m looking forward to checking in each morning. Good luck, guys!

Nice! Is there an iPhone app for this yet?

Anyway, the Marriage Ref pretty much sucked for the five minutes I watched. I hate comedians that think they are Jerry Seinfeld by using his mannerisms, vocal inflections, etc. and that’s all Tom Papa was capable of doing. Even Jerry looked embarassed by it.

Yay for the Morning Mug! Once again, a bright beacon of entertainment in an otherwise dull work day. Keep it up!

Great start, looking forward to having a good place for a Milwaukee/Wisconsin Sports review in the AM, and Dan..thanks for allowing him the oppotunity to continue your tradition!!

Nice start! There WAS a void left by the ending of the “Drink”. With the beginning of the “Mug”, that missing piece may start to return. Thanks for re-lighting the torch.

Wally, you da Man. Great start in the fine tradition of Dan Walsh. We hope to have Packers Therapy podcast for you to link to later this week.

Thanks for picking up the torch.

The Morning Mug? Really? Doesn’t that sound a bit too much like another Mug that’s posted each morning?

  • Wally

Crap Kyle, totally missed that, didn’t even think of that while brainstorming this weekend.
