QUICK HIT: Of ‘Plax’ and Men

Heard of lot of talk on the morning airwaves regarding former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress’ situation as he was taken to begin his prison sentence. There seemed to be a great deal of sentiment that Burress had already suffered enough with his self-inflicted wound and the disruption of his football career.
What a load of manure!
First of all, it was Burress’ stupity that got him into this mess. If he felt the need to arm himself in order to go to a nightclub, maybe it’s someplace he shouldn’t have been to begin with, especially with a family to support. Would people have been so forgiving had the bullet from his gun struck and injured someone else? It’s not as if Burress was new to the area. As a gun owner, it was his responsibility to know the applicable regulations concerning it’s possession.
Secondly, Burress had the opportunity to plea bargain his sentence down to six months. It was only his arrogance that landed him with a two year sentence, which is still a year less than the ordinance mandated.
If any sympathy is warranted in this incident it should be reserved for his wife and child, who will be deprived of his presence for the length of his prison term. As for Burress, he got what he bargained for.
