I was struck by how aggressive McCarthy and Capers have been in the pre-season. I can understand Capers wanting to utilize a variety of schemes to see how they work with his current personnel. Still, you rarely see a cornerback blitz in the pre-season and Woodson has blitzed a half dozen times already this year. That, plus the frequent use of his 1-5-5 scheme, normally would be saved for the regular season.

On offense, I am very surprised at the super-aggressive play calling by McCarthy. There have been more 30+ yard pass attempts in three pre-season games than we saw in half a season a year ago. It feels like he is trying to make a statement...and perhaps trying to get the taste of a 6-10 season out of his mouth.

As we talked about earlier, don't rule out of return of Mark Tauscher if the right tackle candidates struggle. The Packers can find out what they have there by the time Tauscher is physically ready to resume his career. Obviously, Tausch should know the system and could be ready to step right in should Barbre/Giacomini falter.

I think they have real issues at OT. Clifton is, of course, fine. But Barbre was a bit leaky at times tonight. Moll and Giacomini are both, in my estimation, shaky.

I agree that the kicking game is a concern, and -- yes -- I think it is going to cost them a game or two this year.

But even with those concerns (and the ever-present fear of an injury to Rodgers) it is hard not to be encouraged by their showing this preseason. It might be meaningless once the season starts, but their play this August has certainly taken my mind off the incendiary Brewers pitching staff.
