QUICK HIT: Why I Like Ken Macha
By BigSnakeMan in Baseball, Brewers on June 7, 2009 7:38 am / 2 comments
Two quotes after last night’s game from Milwaukee Brewers manager Ken Macha caught my attention this morning.
On first baseman Prince Fielder’s throw home that nailed Braves catcher Brian McCann at the plate in the 6th inning: “That was extremely aggressive. It’s a good play when they’re out. Like a fall-away three pointer from the corner. It was a good strong throw.”
And on the Brewers securing consecutive shut-out wins: “I’ve said it before. You make the manager look smart when you throw shutouts.”
Unlike many other managers, there doesn’t seem to be much pretension from the Brewers’ field boss. Credit Macha for knowing the score.

The first rings true in my experience coaching middle school basketball. Happened all the time.
The second quote reveals a manager who knows that players make the majority of the difference between winning and losing. Props to Ken for understanding what a lot of fans don’t seem to get.
Or, as former GB Packers coach Mike Holmgren used to say about his starting quarterback, “Oh no!……Great throw!”
Or, better yet, Sal (The Barber) Maglie extollling the virtues of the 3-2 Changeup in “Ball Four”.
