Here We Go Again? I Hope Not

So all the talk on sports radio here in Green Bay is on the release of Favre from the Jets and about a 1000 “what-ifs”.  Of course almost every “what if” is geared towards talk of Favre playing for the Vikings.  To fuel the fire, the Minneapolis Star Tribune even has an article on Favre’s release with the comment “But this year there will nothing to stop Favre from wearing purple — if that’s what he truly wants.”  Ugh.

I sincerely hope this is nothing but talk and talk that fades away quickly.  After the drama of last summer, the last thing I want to hear is Favre coming out of retirement for the SECOND time.  Even worse if that return to football is to play for the Vikings.  Let’s all face the truth, if this were to actually occur it would be for one reason and one reason only – Favre trying to stick it to Ted Thompson.  During the height of the “feud” last summer I firmly stood behind the Packers management and decisions and consequently lost a little respect and admiration for Favre.  As they say, time heals all and as the football season went on I found myself looking at my #4 autographed football with fondness once again.  If the above transpired, I think I would almost have to put that football away for awhile.

While this is all speculation, rumor and hubris right now, what re-built respect and liking for Favre that I have would diminish in a heartbeat were I to see him wearing purple.  Favre joining the Vikings would not be for his love of the game, his desire to compete or the want to try and go out on top.  Rather it would be for vindictive and selfish reasons.  Let’s hope none of this comes to pass, because the alternative to me is unfathomable.

I actually hope he does come back so he can wash out with the Vikings and we can end this nonsense once and for all.

And, the thing is, if he were to come back with the Vikings, he wouldn’t just be “sticking it to Thompson”, he’d also be sticking it to a lot of Packer fans who supported him for 17 years.

I do not see it happening.

I would certainly feel like I was having it stuck to me by Favre. Just stay down, Brett. Sheesh!

The whole mess, starting a year ago, has been such a disappointment. Enough already — I am exhausted by the whole thing. I am tired of mommy and daddy fighting. You got your divorce, not be done with it for crying out loud!
