Some Post-Draft Observations

For the first time, I opted away from watching the draft on ESPN and instead watched on the NFL Network. I enjoyed it. The broadcast was surprisingly fluff-free and the discussions on team needs and draft choices were informative. I liked Mayock’s player perspectives better than the ESPN duo of McShay and Kiper. I also forgot how funny Rich Eisen can be…he was very good and on his game.
I loved the reduced time between picks. ..it made for much better TV.
Pizza remains my favorite draft food.
For the first time ever, I believe all four NFC North teams significantly improved themselves via the draft and draft-related trades.
I find it interesting how much attention the local media has spent on the potential character flaws of Clay Matthews and BJ Raji. Folks can’t argue with the picks so I guess they need to find something wrong. All the draft picks on all the teams have flaws…it is what they do going forward that counts.
DeAndre Levy drafted in the 3rd round and Johnathan Casillas goes undrafted? Didn’t see that coming.
Not knowing more than a half dozen players on their roster, any one of the Pocket Doppler staff could do a better job drafting for the Raiders than the Raiders management team did last weekend.
Prediction…3rd round pick Travis Beckum has a better year next season for the NY Giants than 1st round pick Hakeem Nicks.

Maybe we should offer our services to Al Davis.
By not watching ESPN, you missed one very important scene: Erin Andrews.
I have two questions regarding Badgers picked this weekend.
The first is an echo of your Casillas vs Levy question. I honestly thought Casillas was their best defender over the last two seasons.
The second concerns Urbik. I thought he pretty much sucked as a Badger. Does anybody remember watching Tamba Hali embarrass Urbik at Penn St a few years ago? Also, if Vandenheuvel’s feet were that much better than Urbik’s to allow him to play Tackle, why didn’t Vandenheuvel get drafted? I think Urbik will turn out to be very overrated.
