For whatever reason, Gwynn doesn't seem to fit into their plans and, at this point in his career, whatever Lamb would provide could easily be replaced anytime off the street. If they start the year with Lamb, Nelson and Gywnn and they flop, they will still have guys like Duffy and McGehee in the system, ready to replace the non-performers. However, if they start the year with Duffy and McGehee in the bigs and they don't come out o the gate well, the team's options for replacing them are limited as they may have lost Lamb, Gwynn and Nelson.
