QUICK HIT: Sheets Cutting Out Middle Man

It would seem perennial let down Ben Sheets this year will cut out the middle man…you know, the pesky season and just go on the DL from the start. And just to stick it to the Brewers, it sounds like they may get stuck with the “workmans comp” bill if he does have this elbow surgery. You can read more about this here: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/39154722.html
Never really have like Sheets and now I can say I prolly never will.

Still cheaper than arbitration.
I, on the other hand, have always liked Sheets. Sure, his injuries have been frustrating to the extreme, but when he has been on the bump he has delivered; his stats bear that out.
Moreover, because of that past performance, I still think MKE was right to explore an incentive laden deal with Sheets that would include next season. If doing so would have given them the possibility of getting Sheets back in September (when they really might need him) and for all of next season at full strength, he would have been worth the cost of locking him up for several million “dead” dollars this season.
I liked Sheets when he pitched for the Brewers too. Being on the disabled list six of the last eight years has turned my like for him into frustration. I don’t think you invest any money in someone whose track record injury wise, suggest you can’t count on him on a regular basis.
