What To Do Until Spring?

I am a cynic. I have conditioned myself to prepare for the worse all the time and if it doesn’t happen, all the better. But when it comes to sports I am the eternal optimist. Down by 14 and at the 2 minute warning? There’s still a chance. Bottom of the ninth with 2 outs and a .150 ave hitter coming on deck? We can do it.
For the last few years during the miasma of the sports season that is late January and February at the very least the one gleaming beacon of enjoyment was UW basketball. Today I saw that beacon start to fade. I will still watch as many games as I can and cheer the team on but with the knowledge that this season is for wont. As the sports optimist I still hold out hope that there may at least be a tourney berth but after what I saw today, I am starting to think I may not have to worry about even seeing Wisconsin in a bracket this year. Pitchers and catchers report in a couple of months and the NFL Draft is only 3 months away so at least we have that to look forward to, no matter what the Winter Wisconsin sporting landscape may be.
Hey look…Erin Andrews is working the Notre Dame/UConn game…well, I guess I can watch this. Maybe there is something to look forward to?

This captures my view of life and sports, too. And I share this view on the unraveling UW season, too. However, I do want to point out that pitchers and catchers will report to Maryvale in less than a month. To me, that is something to hold on to.
So, who do you like in the Senior Bowl?
I think Bo may be more cynical than you right now. Boy is he crabby on the sdelines…he ain’t one for moral victories and he is really losing patience. It used to be when you watched the Badgers you just knew they would come back and find a way to win a game…now you wait for them to find a way to lose it.
