One More Reason To Like Greg Jennings

Obviously I don’t know Greg Jennings personally, beyond having him on my Fantasy Football roster the past two years. That being said, I have always got the feeling though he’s a pretty good guy. I don’t base this on being a Packer fan but more so on the quotes and media coverage I have seen of and on him over the past couple years. You don’t get that “thug” or prima donna vibe from him that you do from so many other wide receivers in the NFL, Exhibits A & B being Plaxico Burress and Terrell Owens.
In the final media session Jennings had this to say about his desire to remain a Packer (he becomes a UFA in 2010):
“It’s not really all about the money,” said Jennings. “I’m more concerned about my family and where their comfort level is. We’re comfortable here. We like it here. It’s close to home for me. It’s actually the perfect situation for me and my family. We don’t want to leave at all. Hopefully we’d love to get something done, either here now or next year, it doesn’t matter. The sooner the better actually.”
I hope Ted Thompson was listening as this is someone that should be a target for the Aaron Rodgers for as long as possible. Whether its about the money or not, Jennings has earned his pay day and I hope the Packers management does what it should and get him signed to an extension ASAP.

It was great to read those remarks from Jennings. I agree: he seems to be a quality guy that GB needs to lock up long term. Fortunately, TT has the cap room to get it done. What surprises me is that he didn’t do it during the season.

Of course, as we well know, when they ‘say’ it’s “not about the money”, it’s almost always about the money. One wonders how much it will take for his family to “feel comfortable”. After the Favre ‘unveiling’, I no longer automatically accept the public declarations of professional athletes. I find it hard to believe that the team hasn’t at least initiated talks aimed at an extension and the fact that we haven’t heard as much suggests to me that Jennings intends to test ‘free agency’.
